Julie Baril is VP of Quality Control for SWBC Mortgage Corp. located out of San Antonio, TX. Her career spans over 20 years from originating to underwriting and quality control management. Her role requires precise analytics to produce certainty with data-driven results and strong communication skills. She is a certified administrator on Aces Quality Software, a QC tech giant. Having capacity in various areas, she believes staying current on all quality/fraud trends, legislative updates/mortgage industry news as well as advocating for the industry is important. She is co-chair of both Connecticut Mortgage Banker’s Young Mortgage Professionals and Underwriting Committee. She is passionate about fraud detection and education on how to manufacture quality loans to sustain a thriving mortgage financial ecosystem. Personally, she keeps busy with her husband and two kids, running road and obstacle course races, biking and fundraising for cancer research.

Joanne Breen was the 2023 National Association of REALTORS® Regional Vice President for New England and serves on the NAR Executive Committee. She was the 2020 President of Connecticut REALTORS®, their 2021 State REALTOR of the Year and is the chair of their Legislative Committee.  A realtor member for 45 years, she is a past president of Greater Hartford Association and she co-owned ERA Sargis-Breen Real Estate for 27 years.  In 2022 she was inducted into the ERA Real Estate Hall of Fame and is a three-time winner of their Jim Jackson Customer Service award.

Rob is a well known speaker, writer and all around mortgage expert. He is the creator of the Chrisman Commentary for the Daily Mortgage News. He is also on the board of directors of Inheritance Funding Corporation, of Doorway Home Loans, of AXIS Appraisal Management, and of the California MBA. He is a member of the Secure Settlements Advisory Board, an associate of the STRATMOR Group, and of the Mortgage Bankers Association of the Carolinas and its membership committee. Rob has provided expert witness services for mortgage and real estate-related cases, has lectured to groups around the country.

Robbie Chrisman

Robbie started his mortgage industry career with internships during high school and college at Peoples National Bank in Colorado, and RPM & Bay Equity in the San Francisco Bay Area. After graduating from The University of Texas at Austin with a degree in Finance in 2014, he went to work at SoFi, where he rose to Director, Capital Markets assisting in the creation of SoFi’s residential mortgage division before leaving to work for TMS in Austin, Texas. From there, he went to work for FinTech startup Riivos in San Francisco and then to Mortgage Capital Trading (MCT) in San Diego. He is an avid cyclist, has visited all 50 states and numerous countries, and produces a successful daily podcast on the residential mortgage industry.

Everyone in the real estate industry experiences adversity, but it’s how you choose to handle it that separates success from failure. From the outside, Steve Grandizio looks like someone who has had it pretty easy. He was a four-time collegiate All-American, played minor league baseball, co-founded a successful non-profit, has had a successful mortgage career for 20+ years and has a wonderful wife of 25+ years and two amazing children.

Although all of this is true, his path to get here has been anything but easy. He has dealt with adversity throughout his life, which has helped what shaped the man he is today.

Steve will share some of life’s curveballs, including a near death medical experience, that have been thrown his way and the perspective he had in order to help him knock them out the park!

Today, Steve is very active in Little Smiles PA, a 501c3 that brings smiles to the faces of kids in need throughout the Delaware Valley. He also has spent 20+ years in the mortgage industry in various sales and leadership roles and the founder of Eyeroll, a dad joke lifestyle brand raising money for adoption.

William Kooper

William Kooper is Vice President of State Government Affairs and Industry Relations at the Mortgage Bankers Association and in that capacity leads MBA’s advocacy efforts at the state and local level as well as MBA’s engagement with mortgage banking associations across the country. William is responsible for the MBA State Legislative and Regulatory Committee, staffs the State Association Relations Committee and leads the State Relations Initiative — MBA’s program to partner with state associations to align business development, communications and advocacy interests.

William joined MBA in January 2001 as Director of Government Affairs, and has had a variety of roles assisting MBA members. Before leading the state program, he was Associate Vice President of Legislative and Political Affairs where he directed MBA’s nationwide grassroots advocacy program, the Mortgage Action Alliance, Inc. and the planning and execution of MBA’s National Advocacy Conference. He also served as staff to MBA’s political action committee, MORPAC.

Prior to joining MBA, William was appointed by President Bill Clinton as Special Assistant and Briefing Coordinator to U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Andrew Cuomo. At HUD, William prepared the Secretary’s daily event briefings, wrote the Secretary’s weekly report to the President and also made contributions to Presidential and Vice Presidential briefing documents.  William’s other positions in and out of government have included Manager of Government Relations at HIP Health Plans in New York City, Senior Legislative Associate to the New York State Assembly Committee on Health, Research Analyst for the New York State Assembly’s Council on Health Care Financing, and Confidential Assistant to New York Governor Mario Cuomo. 

William was born in New York City and raised in Newtown, Connecticut. He received his MPA with a concentration in management from New York University in 1991 and his BA in International Affairs from Trinity University in 1986. William also studied at the University of East Anglia in the United Kingdom and attended the Chase Collegiate School in Waterbury, CT.

Debbie Sousa has been the Executive Director of the Massachusetts Mortgage Bankers Association since 2011. As Executive Director she oversees all activities of the Association including education, legislative and compliance updates and trainings, membership and other activities of the MMBA. She previously served as the Director of Education for 5 years where she coordinated educational programs and events.  

Prior to joining the MMBA, she is a 24-year mortgage industry veteran holding a variety of positions. Debbie holds a seat on the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Mortgage Bankers Foundation. She is actively involved in many local committees and task forces.      

Debbie divides her time between Boston and Maine with her husband Steve. Her favorite thing to do is spending time with kids and grandkids (with Steve of course).   

Kevin Stevens

Kevin Stevens is a Senior Manager for Mortgage Markets at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), where he focuses on monitoring market activities and developments in mortgage originations. Kevin joined CFPB in October 2022. Prior to CFPB, Kevin was the Acting Director for the Office of Single Program Development for the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) in the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) since August 2019 where he led the development and implementation of FHA’s origination policies. Prior to serving as acting office director, Kevin was the Director of the Home Mortgage Insurance Division within the office since 2014 and the Deputy Division Director since 2011. Kevin first joined HUD in 2008 serving in the RESPA and SAFE Act offices. Prior to his government service, Kevin began his career in the mortgage industry in 1992 holding several origination positions for different regional mortgage lenders including seven years as a Regional Manager/Account Executive with American Mortgage Express. Kevin holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Roanoke College.
